February 10, 2010 - 6 p.m. Ada County Courthouse, 200 W Front
Street, Boise: Ada
County Commissioners to hear Dry Creek Ranch planned community.
Although
we've won the battle against 4,300 homes, the developers have
come back with "only" 3,500 homes. It's time to speak
out again, or AT LEAST please attend the public hearing.
It is important to show
up at County meetings even if you don't wish to speak. Simply
being there shows the Ada County Commissioners that the public
truly does care about the foothills and development in them--and
reminds them that we are VOTERS. We might not have the money
of developers, but we have something...the ballot box.
If you do wish to
speak, some talking points for
the Dry Creek Ranch meeting are as follows:
1. Traffic - far
too much with this community to be supported by current
roads between Dry Creek valley and Boise/Eagle/Meridian
2. Water - we
don't know the amount of water in the aquifers yet, and
current residents are on private wells.
3. Loss of
incredibly rich agricultural land that has been farmed
for 100 years
4. Loss of
wildlife habitat
5. Cost to
taxpayers - the Dry Creek Ranch economic study showed
that this development will NOT "pay for itself" for many
years, if ever. Many "conditions" have been devised to
get the developer to pay for any shortfalls...but if
this "developer" sells, then what happens to the
promises made. We watched many promises broken by the
string of Hidden Springs developers, as early ones had
financial difficulties.
6. The County
Commissioners promised residents of this part of the
foothills that we would have a "Central Foothills
Sub-Area Plan" as part of the Ada County Comprehensive
Plan. DCRNA has made repeated requests to begin working
on that plan, but the Commissioners now have completely
reneged on their promise. See their
letter to our
neighborhood association here.
